From within the depths of silence and despair, emerges the bright light of hope and joy, to move us toward a horizon upon which we shall ponder... and wonder.
This album is dedicated to my forebears who were born, lived, struggled, celebrated, loved and died in the highlands of Brentonico, in the southern Alps of Trentino province in Italy. A magic land, inhabited and cultivated by our Rhaeti ancestors who struggled to make a living, but lived they did.
The main lines of these ancestors originated from hunters (Cazzanelli), warriors (Galli), pastoralists (Tognotti) and farmers (Rossi). These names are still present today, scattered along little villages strewn on the slope of the Sorna plateau.
Janus is an original Roman god who looked both ways and therefore the guardian of gates, beginnings and ends, time and transitions. The main gate to the village of the "Ere" (or farmyards), is where my mother was born and lived in her father's ancestral home.
She has recently passed away and wished to be buried in the cemetery of her native village, therefore, with my brothers, my sister our wives and I have completed our journey as promised.
At her village, we were expected by her remaining siblings, her remaining nieces and cousins, uncles, aunts, distant relatives and friends who tolled the church bells in her honour and memory. Ciao.
